The Longest Day Brings Together the Benchmark Alzheimer’s Community

Today is a special day for all of us in the Alzheimer’s community. It is The Longest Day, an annual, global event to raise awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association®. At Benchmark Senior Living, we have planned special events at all of our senior living communities that promise to bring us together in one spirit of support.

June 20 is The Longest Day

Held annually on the summer solstice on June 20, The Longest Day is a sunrise-to-sunset event that symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers. People across the globe are participating in activities they love in order to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

This year the 51 senior living communities in the Benchmark family will honor the day by weaving a section of an oversized friendship bracelet. Later this year the sections will be weaved together into one friendship bracelet, linking all of us at Benchmark.

If all goes as planned, we will set a Guinness World Record for creating the world’s longest friendship bracelet!

A Growing Community

With Benchmark’s efforts and the contributions of all who participate, the Alzheimer’s Association is able to help more people and provide more support to the community of Alzheimer’s sufferers and their caregivers. It is estimated that as many as 5.3 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, and research shows that every 66 seconds someone in the United States develops the disease.

Show Your Support

The Alzheimer’s Association sponsors events throughout the year to raise awareness and generate support and funds to fight Alzheimer’s disease.

Last year alone, Benchmark Associates walked more than 3,000 miles to raise $40,000 in The Walk to End Alzheimer's. We also used social media to raise awareness and funds through a program sponsored by Benchmark partner Welltower featuring #ShareForAlz.

You can show your support in big ways and small. Join a Walk, contribute online and find other ways to bring attention to Alzheimer’s disease. It touches more of us than you might imagine.
