Will oversee Benchmark Senior Living’s $8 million investment to add assisted living and memory care residences to popular community

Benchmark Senior Living has appointed Westwood, Mass., resident Susan Cwieka to the newly created role of Campus Executive Director of New Pond Village in Walpole, Mass.

In addition to working in home care, Cwieka has served as an administrator of nursing homes and as a highly recognized senior living executive for over 30 years, including 10 previous years with Benchmark. “Caring for seniors is truly my passion,” she says.

Cwieka’s experience in senior living began at 12 when she first volunteered at a nursing home in her hometown of Longmeadow, Mass., assisting residents with dining and activity programs and working in the coffee shop. “Those experiences guided my path to my higher education and, ultimately, to my career in caring for seniors,” says Cwieka, who earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing home administration from Simmons College and later completed a master’s degree in public administration with a health care concentration at Suffolk University.

“I am delighted to have Susan Cwieka step into the important role of Campus Executive Director at New Pond Village,” says Tom Grape, Benchmark’s Chairman and CEO. “Susan is someone whose life and career exemplify the Benchmark mission to Elevate Human Connection. We are grateful to entrust the care and growth of this very special community, its residents, families and associates to this wonderfully gifted and compassionate Executive Director.

Benchmark acquired the community in May 2017 and is investing over $8 million in renovations. “We are now building out assisted living and memory care facilities to provide our independent living residents a continuum of onsite care,” says Cwieka, who anticipates licensing for the community’s assisted living residence to be completed this fall and memory care residence to be completed in early 2018.

New Pond Village was recently voted by Hometown Weekly Newspapers’ readers as Best Retirement Residence, taking first place as a hometown winner and second place as a regional winner.
