Kasey's Story

After Kasey Larsen interned with a program director at an Alzheimer’s community during her senior year at Endicott College near Boston, she was certain her career would be in senior living. A fine art major with a concentration in art therapy, Kasey became an associate in 2015 at The Falls at Cordingly Dam in Newton, Mass., where she has expanded art programming for both memory care and assisted living residents.

“Art classes are my favorite activity for them,” she says. “We do them Friday and Saturday mornings, and they include everything from watercolor painting to painting with music, marbleizing paper to dying fabric, creating murals to print-making. I’ve tried it all with residents!” Kasey will continue her education soon at Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass., and plans to become an art therapist.

Meanwhile, she continues hosting paint nites and art lectures and has even “curated” a resident art exhibit that included some of her own oil paintings. “I enjoy coming to the community every day to learn from our residents’ wonderful stories, to laugh and share together,” she says, “and I love being someone they can count on - someone they trust. Our group feels like a family!”

I started my “job” when I was 15.. I didn’t realize then that I had found my passion and launched my “career."
