Monica Silva
Memory Care Director
Benchmark Senior Living at Waltham Crossings

Monica's Story

Monica Silva was nearly 16 when she and a friend needed jobs. Her friend’s dad drove them to Waltham Crossings in Waltham, Mass., where they were both hired as dining servers. “I tried other jobs while also working at Waltham Crossings,” says the Waltham native, “but there was just something about the place that kept me coming back.”

Monica continued working there while going full-time to Framingham State University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. Today, she serves the community as Harbor Care Director, overseeing the care of residents with memory impairment. Married in November 2016, Monica and her husband, who works for the city of Newton, love having friends over at the home they purchased two years ago. “I love being home,” she says. “When we have friends over, it’s low-key cook-outs and sitting outside by the fire.

My husband tells friends I am a director of memory care in an assisted living community and always adds, ‘She has so much patience – I don’t know how she does it.’ But I am excited to come to work every day because of the residents. My day-to-day is always changing. Nothing is ever the same, and the residents are so much fun, and funny too! That’s what I love telling friends and family about working at Waltham Crossings.”

I started my “job” when I was 15. I didn’t realize then that I had found my passion and launched my “career."
