5 Ways Benchmark Brings Joyful Moments to Assisted Living

This year’s National Assisted Living Week is September 11–18, 2022. The week gives us the opportunity to recognize all the associates, volunteers, supporters, residents, and loved ones who help make Benchmark great.

In honor of this year’s National Assisted Living Week theme of “Joyful Moments,” we’ve decided to share some of our own. Whether from doing a yoga class, sharing a laugh with a nurse, or grabbing a beer with a few friends, joyful moments are all around at Benchmark Senior Living.

1. Purpose and Values

Our Called to Care culture extends across each of our locations and deep within our organization itself. As an example, Benchmark Certified Nursing Assistant Lena Robinson delayed her own retirement to continue serving our residents during the pandemic. Why? “They’re like family,” she explains.

Our associates are a huge part of providing joyful moments. “I love seeing the staff intermingle with the residents,” says the loved one of a Benchmark resident. “Even if it’s just a high five, smile, or a rub on the back.”

2. Engaged, Vibrant Lifestyle

Socialization is a core component of life at Benchmark. That’s why we offer a holistic program of classes, activities, and events, including concerts, cooking demonstrations, learning seminars, gardening and more. The daughter of a Benchmark resident recalls the first time she visited her mom after moving her into Harbor Point: “I saw her playing [games], laughing and enjoying herself,” she said. “She was relaxed and at ease. I felt a sense of peace and was thrilled that she found her second home.”

3. Top Level of Care

Benchmark communities provide access to multiple levels of care, personalized to a resident’s specific needs, such as bathing, dressing, medication management, and more.

After scouring Connecticut for the right Assisted Living community, the children of future Ridgefield Crossings residents found a place for their loved ones to call home when their path crossed with one of our trusted associates. “We met [the Benchmark associate] and knew that our parents belonged in her care. She understood our needs and answered her phone every time we had a question. And still does!”

4. Chef-Prepared Dining

Award-winner Chef Tom Sharkis says, “Our residents are used to having the very best and always like trying new things, so that’s what we aim to give them. It’s a lot of fun!” That’s why at Benchmark, we serve delicious award-winning cuisine, including three chef-prepared meals per day, served in our dining room or outdoors and pub snacks in our bistros. A Benchmark resident’s loved one even confirms that “the food is like a high-end restaurant.”

5. Endless Variety of Amenities

Joyful moments arise when seniors are comfortable and in an environment where their needs are being met. No matter which Benchmark community you visit, each offers amenities to help everyone feel at home. A happy Benchmark resident describes his favorite parts about his community: “The library, activity room, and working kitchen all say, ‘Come in and stay awhile.’”

Joyful moments are around every corner at Benchmark. One loved one even remarked, “You will never look back and regret your decision. You will only say, ‘Why did I wait so long to have my family member join this wonderful community?’”
