Benchmark Honors Social Wellness Month With Return of ‘Radiant Acts of Kindness’ Campaign
Kindness starts with a single individual. One person donates clothing to a local shelter. Another person delivers a home-cooked meal to a senior living alone. Now, more than ever, it’s time for everyone to be kinder to one another. So, Benchmark (www.BenchmarkSeniorLiving.com), a leading provider of senior living services in the Northeast, is hoping to spawn a contagion of compassion with the return of its Radiant Acts of Kindness campaign.
To honor Social Wellness Month, a time for nurturing oneself and one’s relationships, Benchmark’s second annual campaign is hoping to, once again, show some good old-fashioned kindness to individuals across the Northeast, particularly senior citizens who often have the greatest need. Throughout July, associates at Benchmark’s 56 senior living communities in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont will be spreading the love by committing acts of kindness in the towns and neighborhoods they serve.
Radiant Acts of Kindness kicked off last year in honor of the company’s 20th anniversary and was so successful it has become an annual event. Over 1,200 acts were committed in June 2017, exceeding the goal of 1,000 acts. This year, Benchmark is inviting individuals in the communities it serves to join in helping show seniors and others they care and that we all are better together. The company is challenging each of its communities to commit at least 20 Radiant Acts during July, whether it’s something as simple as taking out the trash for an older neighbor, delivering meals to homeless families or paying for another patron’s cup of coffee.
“Our goal is to radiate kindness and make people feel valued,” says Tom Grape, Benchmark’s chairman and CEO. “For most of us, summer is a carefree time to reconnect with friends and family, but not everyone, especially older Americans, has that opportunity. We not only want to assist our most vulnerable neighbors but also help people experience the joy of something we as a company have done since our inception, which is connecting with other people and putting them at the center of everything we do.”
Last year’s campaign included such acts as a collection of flip-flops being donated to a domestic violence shelter and a meal being cooked and served to homeless families and in a local church. It’s these types of acts that associates in Benchmark communities already are replicating this year.
