The Village at Kensington Place Wins ‘Best Assisted Living Facility’ Award for Second Year
The bustling little city of Meriden, Conn., is home to communities from some of the biggest names in senior living. Even with such worthy competition, The Village at Kensington Place recently received The Record-Journal “Best Assisted Living Facility” Readers’ Choice Award for the second straight year!
For the 16th annual awards, “a record-breaking 210,000 votes were cast” to rate and rank thousands of area businesses in many categories, according to organizers. This year, the publication staged a red-carpet evening for winners (complete with paparazzi) at the Aqua Turf Club in nearby Southington, Conn.
Executive Director Bill Allyn reserved an entire table for associates at The Village at Kensington Place. Each department elected an associate to represent at the event, which drew close to 500 attendees.
“Being sandwiched between (area competitors) means that the expectations for senior living in this area are very high,” Bill says. “Our big differentiator is that we behave like family. When you walk into our community, the first thing you see are photographs of our residents’ lives, their weddings and children. We try to deliver a very person-centered experience.”
As the executive director for the past five years, Bill says winning awards is secondary to the mission of creating human connections.
“This award validates to all of us that we’re on the right track,” he says, “Philosophically, the way we run our business day-to-day is working even better than our competitors.”
“If you treat people with dignity and respect, you gain a reputation for that,” Bill adds.
